<script type="text/javascript"

We don’t always think of Cruises from Southampton as being particularly hi tech types of holiday, do we? This is why I was so surprised when I saw my partner packing her laptop and iPad before setting off. We hadn’t even left the house and it already seemed that we had different ideas about what kind of experience was going to be waiting for us.

Here I was, packing away some books and magazines and saying a fond farewell to my PC, while my other half looked like she was getting ready for a technological frenzy. One of us had failed to understand what a modern cruise trip was all about, and I had a horrible feeling that I knew who it was.

The first thing I had missed was that the ships now come with Wi-Fi. This seems pretty obvious now but it wasn’t at the time. Not to me anyway. I guess that since restaurants, bars and parks now have Wi-Fi I should have expected it on my holiday as well. It’s just that the image of cruising past an idyllic island in the Caribbean and being able to go online at the same online sounds too good to be true.

A Caribbean Call

My mum recently caught up with the technology age and got a laptop, so I was pretty pleased to be able to communicate with her by Skype, even if she continually claims that someone else’s face appears on the screen instead of mine. I have absolutely no idea what she looks at when she is speaking to me.

Apparently there is talk of some of the top cruise lines stocking out their best rooms with iPads, but for the meantime there is a connectivity centre which lets you hook up all of your gadgets with the telly. Until they start putting free tablets in the rooms I’ll need to make do with watching my partner use hers.

Apparently the different cruise lines are also working hard on different ways of making sure that the journey is tailored to the needs of each individual passenger. There is talk of retina eye scans, smart phone control and RFID wristbands. Some of these developments are still a bit of a way off but there is no doubt that they are on their way. As it is, right from the moment we checked in the entire behind the scenes action obviously went smoothly. I had half expected to be given a luminous orange armband like in a Magalluf hotel or to be questioned by suspicious staff as to my identity every time I tried to enter a room. Neither of these things happened so whatever guest registration technology they use just now seems just fine to me.

It is good to see more and more businesses realizing the importance of having a substantial online presence, but this is also making it .....

It is good to see more and more businesses realizing the importance of having a substantial online presence, but this is also making it difficult for them to catch due attention from their target markets. This makes it almost impossible for businesses not putting up their best to compete with sheer competition and rivalry in virtual world.

That is why businesses are left with no option other than hiring the best web design firm that is experienced and capable enough to brew a recipe for online success for a business, taking into consideration all the requirements and expectations of a business and blending them perfectly with what their target market demands.

This, however, is far more demanding and challenging than it sounds. Therefore, given below are certain tips that can prove of great significance to web design companies looking to present their clients with the best in return of their trust and investment in them.

Inculcating Objectivity

Aesthetical brilliance is definitely needed for success of a website, but what’s needed even more is a well defined objective. Before even commencing the design, web design firm and the business should be certain about the final objective of their collective website project. For designing firms, it is greatly advisable to “wireframe” (referred for mock up design) their project and discuss it with a couple of people to see how much that inspires them. If most of them approve of it, majority of visitors will also approve of it; so they should go about it.

Aligning what’s Wanted with what’s Needed

According to experts, one of the potential reasons for failure of online projects is that web design companies fail to align what clients want of their websites with what their websites actually need for a successful show. Any web design firm taking care of this aspect is never to fail the clients as well as their visitors, thus making any business website a great success.

Contact Information

It is an aspect that needs great consideration, but receives the least in majority of the cases, and leads the overall project to failure. For a visitor who is greatly impressed and persuaded by what’s presented to him through a website; not finding enough information about the business itself and not finding convenient way(s) to access the business is the most annoying thing. That is why; best website design firms should make sure of furnishing a business website with precise business info aided with easy access to it.

Navigation

Talking of convenience, nothing comes as handy as convenient navigation. For a web design firm that does not take special account of furnishing their client’s business website with convenient navigation options, the whole effort goes in vain in the end if visitors are not gravitated towards their site.

Social Media Integration

This does not even need to be mentioned. The significance of social media has far outgrown than any other single factor. Inducing social media compatibility into a website means allowing visitors to associate themselves more with a website, which is very essential for long term success of any website.

Mobile Web Compatibility

Similarly, making a website compatible for mobile browsing has also become quite mandatory as the number of mobile web surfers is increasing on an amazing rate. Not making an effort to accommodate those visitors, means not taking into account a significant chunk of your potential target market.

Conclusion

Every niche and every target market has a different set of demands and expectations from a website, but there are some aspects that are equally important for all of them. Listed above are few of those; make sure to implement them if you want to see desired online success with your business website.

I have been given a few bad jobs in my time and to be fair most of them involved cleaning things out in one .....

I have been given a few bad jobs in my time and to be fair most of them involved cleaning things out in one way or another.

For example, in my very first job I was given the weekly duty to sort out the office drinks machine. If you can recall those 1970s style coffee making machines then you will probably sympathise with me. The inside of it was pretty horrible and the first time I opened it up put me off the idea of instant hot drinks for months.

It dispensed the classics like tea, coffee and hot chocolate but also had a surprisingly modern touch with a relatively tasty tomato soup. I don’t think cappuccino, mocha or strawberry frapuccinos existed back in those days, at least not in my home town. Anyway, I hated cleaning out the grunge, the gunk and the other weird stuff which built up in it.

After that I moved onto looking after the maintenance of the office printers. This was a big job and fairly messy as well. I had to clean the HP 1200 LaserJet Toner, it’s fair to say after completing the job I was covered in a cloud of toner, very difficult to get out of your clothes.

A Coat Hanger Salvage Device

My main job was to open it up and clean out the paper which had gotten jammed in it. Did this happen often? Oh, about as often as the drinks machine running out of tomato soup on cold winter days. I had to use an old bent clothes hanger to try and get offending pieces of paper out. Actually, thinking about it now I don’t even know where that coat hanger came from or who came up with the idea of using it as a jammed paper salvage device.

The other job which I had to do with the printer was change the toner cartridges when it had run out. If I am being honest I didn’t even know what I was really doing at the start and ended up with powdered ink all over my shirt the first time. I got a bit better at it over time but it all seemed so unnecessarily complicated that I need to confess now that I sometimes skipped doing it and nipped out for lunch in the hope that a colleague would need to change it in my absence.

All of this reminiscing has a point, and that it is that it was brought on by seeing how easy it is to clean the toners on modern printers. A friend had advised me that doing this would help extend the machine’s life. I was a bit reluctant to do it at first as the mere idea brought back some nasty memories. Anyway, I started to do it and realised that it has actually allowed my printer to give me a better performance as well as stay in tip top condition for longer.

When it comes to self-publishing, writing a blog is about as easy and inexpensive as it gets. You can sign up with a free blog hosting service, write a paragraph or two, click the Post button, and your message is on the Internet, available to anyone and everyone. If you’re new to the blogosphere, we’ll tell you what you need to know.

Blog Basics

A blog—a combination of the words “web” and “log”—provides a means to be in touch on a daily or weekly basis with the online world through the Internet. It’s similar to a website, but it’s something that’s updated frequently to keep your readers informed.

As we’ve already noted, it costs you little or nothing to get started. Blog hosts usually offer templates so you don’t need to be a computer programmer to establish and maintain a blog.

Blogs exists for a variety of both personal and business reasons: as digital journals or personal diaries, as news feeds or travelogues, to share ideas and tips, to communicate with friends and family, to impart political commentary or opinions, to record daily events, and to do business. You’ll find a large diversity of blogs covering every possible topic from recipes to cooking to photography to spirituality to hobbies to sports and more.

Business blogs are often used as marketing tools to share product news and tips, to inform customers about services or events, and to create relationships with clients.

Begin A Blog

Many companies offer blog hosting services, so look for one that offers the elements that suit your needs. Does it include easy-to-use design tools so you are able to customize your entries? Can you add photos and links? Are promotion or tracking tools available? Does the site offer technical support? Will a free site suffice, or do you need the extra amenities a paid site offers?

Once you’ve chosen a service, follow the online prompts to create your blog and begin sharing your news over the Internet. Blogs contain several unique features. You’ll notice that the newest entries or “posts” appear at the top of the page. Scroll down the page to find the older, previous entries. In addition, you may have the ability to archive, or store, the older posts for future reading and reference.

Some blogs also provide readers an opportunity to add comments on the content you’ve posted. This collaborative feature allows your business to obtain feedback about its products and services. In addition, readers may be able to subscribe to your blog, and they’re notified when you add new information to the site.

Maintain A Blog

To keep readers and customers interested, it’s important to update your blog frequently and provide fresh content. Some bloggers discipline themselves to add something new and relevant each day.

When you’re creating new posts, think about presenting your ideas in a creative or original way that reflects your personality. If appropriate, adding a bit of humor may help. You can make changes to the post later, but it doesn’t hurt to proofread your message before posting Drive readers to your blog by commenting on other blogs and including a link to your own. Don’t forget to include a link to your company’s Web site on your blog, and think about linking to other social media such as Facebook and Twitter. When used properly, a blog can serve as an effective way to communicate with family, friends, and customers.

Author Bio:

Guest Post by Kashif Raza. Are you looking for android application developer in abu dhabi to build your andorid app? webologyworld.com 2 years of Industry experience in mobile and web.

Cloud computing congealed in the gutters of some Cupertino back alley, borne in the slime and muck cast off by a billion machines working .....

Cloud computing congealed in the gutters of some Cupertino back alley, borne in the slime and muck cast off by a billion machines working to process the Internet through clogged tubes. In fact, our generation’s genius laureate has been talking about the cloud for quite a long time.

Like the first tetrapods emerged from the murk to walk on land, cloud computing has evolved into a more dynamic, versatile platform. There is the computing part, which is still fairly niche, but then there’s cloud hosting, cloud storage, virtual private servers (VPS), the list goes on.

The recent turmoil in the industry has been a debate about the public cloud versus the private cloud and which one presents more value to the people utilizing them.

The cloud brings a number of challenges and benefits with it, and IT organizations have undergone an intense disruption in the market for their own tools and the services they sell to other businesses. Deloitte has released a report tracking the changes in IT for digital business that provides more detailed information. Rackspace, one of the leaders in the cloud industry, has released its own app for android phones which allow users to access their cloud files and servers while on the go.

The private cloud is most often used by a single entity, be that a corporation, organization or individual. It can be managed internally or by a third-party provider but is only accessible by people who have the credentials to get in. My Google Music account is kind of a private cloud; only I can access it and its raison d’etre is to play my music I’ve loaded to my Google account. The downside to private clouds is that because users have to purchase them, build them and oversee their upkeep, you may as well just buy a regular server and save money on “cloud” functionality since the on-hands management wipes out the benefit.

The public cloud, on the other hand, fits the cloud-computing bill a bit more snugly. Service providers make applications, storage and other resources available to the public through the Internet and can either charge for access to that cloud or offer it for free. Gmail and Facebook are some of the most popular public clouds, with services like Dropbox gaining traction in the larger market.

So which is best for the future?

Well, both. And neither.

The cloud is here; it is not a question “if” or “when” anymore. As company adoption of clouds gains traction, it’s becoming clear that the solution for many businesses is a hybrid cloud – rather, a combination of public and private clouds that link back to a core and with each other to deliver information across a matrix of servers. As the cloud concept grew, analysts speculated that businesses and companies would adopt a c loud service for their operations, but what we are seeing is the adoption of multiple types of cloud servers; a thrilling development.

It is also a confusing one.

The cloud was hyped and sold as a panacea to storage and accessibility problems within companies and what’s being shown now is that it takes at least two to tango in the cloud. On-premises solutions and cloud servers often work together to provide the streamlined promise of cloud computing. While it’s certain that the cloud will continue to integrate itself into the daily lives of businesses and consumers, on the back end, we will likely be seeing dual assets – both cloud-enabled and standard – solutions for the foreseeable future.

Whether you want to cut costs because of suddenly changed economic circumstances or you simply want to see if you can save a few .....

Whether you want to cut costs because of suddenly changed economic circumstances or you simply want to see if you can save a few bucks here and there, you’ll find that on-line deals and online freebies are a great way to do it. However, as you go looking for these freebies, you’ll find that there are plenty of places that are simply scams. If you want to find the freebies, it take some time to do your research and use these tips to get you started.
First, think about what you want. It is going to be much easier to get a few free food and soap samples than it is to get a television or a laptop. While there are definitely giveaways for high end items, the truth of the matter is that it is far easier to get smaller items. Take a moment to think about what you want from the freebie sites, such as http://www.freebies365.co.uk. While you do not want a lot of small things that are going to clutter up your home, you also want to make sure that you are not applying for freebies that you are never going to get.

Sign up for newsletters. If you have a few brands or a few products that you love, put yourself on their mailing lists. Both snail mail and email lists are going to have plenty of opportunities for you to get freebies and you’ll find that if you purchase something at some point that they are much more likely to send you offers. You’ll discover that the important part of this process is weeding. If you have been on a newsletter for a while and all that you are getting is ads, it is likely time to get yourself off the list or to block it.

Also, if the company that you are looking at has any sort of social media presence, subscribe to it. Whether they post on Twitter or on Facebook, you are going to find that there are a number of different options open to you for free things. The way that these companies use these platforms are to rally their fans very quickly. If you get on the Facebook and the Twitter of the company that you like, you’re going to be in a terrific place to take advantage of their blink-and-you’ll miss them deals. This is also a very convenient way to get the updates that you need.

Take a moment to learn more about the different kinds of freebies that you can pick up just by being online. Remember that some of the best freebies are going to be hidden from view, so think about what your options are and how you can find the things that you are after.

We all love to sit down now and then for a bit of sporting action, a quality film or even a gripping soap opera. It is this love of the telly which has led manufacturers to come up with ever more innovative technology to let us enjoy watching it as much as possible.

As well as big screens, high definition images, bigger screens, surround sound and truly humungous screens we also now have the intriguing prospect of mirror televisions to look at too. If the combination of a television and a classy mirror sounds like something out of a sci-fi film then you will be surprised to see that you can get hold of them right now.

For those people who like to know how their gadgets work here is a rundown on what makes a mirror television tick.

The History

I hated history at school but when it comes to fun household gadgets it is a lot more interesting, isn’t it? Anyway, there has been talk of this sort of mirror / TV combination since at least the 80s, so it is hardly a flash in the pan .The technology which makes it possible has only really become available at a reasonable cost in the last few years though, which is why you probably never heard of them before then.

Dielectric Glass

The glass which is used in these mirrors is called dielectric glass. This differs from conventional mirror glass in that it doesn’t have a reflective surface just stuck onto the back of it. If you manage to get hold of a piece of it anytime then it will just look like normal glass to you. It is a type of mirrored surface which is specially made by adding on layers of the special reflective material until the perfect combination is reached. At this point it will get to the right level of reflection to act as a mirror but also allows the images from the television screen to be seen perfectly.

Give It a Try at Home

If you get a chance to try out one of these amazing bathroom mirrors you will see that it works best when you are at a reasonable distance from it. Get too close it and it won’t give you the perfect effect. The lighting in the room also makes a difference to the quality of the image you see. Most people who go ahead and buy one of these fun TV frames find that it doesn’t take them long to get the right distance and the right lighting levels in their room. After this it is a question of enjoying it and enjoying when your visitors ask you how on Earth it works too.

A vast array of different companies run contests, games and sweepstakes as a way to market their products through offering prizes. By getting you to pay attention to their sales pitch, whether you win or not they know it will boost sales way beyond what it actually costs them in prizes. Since these have been going on for decades, it’s easy to guess that it must be a pretty successful marketing operation.
Getting people to enter contests previously required either a direct mailing, telemarketing call or just grabbing someone who happened to be shopping nearby. Now with the Internet, they can attract the attention of untold millions. With a simple flashing “Win Now!,” they can gain far more customers than ever before. How does it benefit us, the ones they want to make into customers? Whether you purchase anything or not, most open entry contests are legally required to provide everyone an equal chance at winning. If the Internet made the job of having contests easier, it also made it easier to enter them.

With that in mind, here are five examples of the sorts of things you can win online:

##Gift Cards
These are a very popular prize with retailers, since winners generally must use it with that retailer. They like it because they’ve found that people shopping with a gift card will purchase more than the value of the card, which means revenue they might not have gotten otherwise.

##Services
Services have the same marketing advantages as gift cards, but are limited somewhat by location as winners generally need to be local to receive their prize. Entering national contests run by companies with local stores can allow you to redeem prizes, though. Such varied services as oil changes, hair styling and carpet cleaning can be won online.

##Electronics
Video games, consoles, televisions, MP3 players and laptop computers are just a few examples of this prize. These prizes are not just from contests put on by retailers, but are often seen in promotions by companies using the prize to gain your attention.

##Housewares
A similar profile to the electronics contests, housewares are more often seen in contests demographically targeted at women. No matter what your gender is, though, a free toaster is still a free toaster.

##Cash
Cash is a common prize, but the most elusive one to win. Odds of winning may seem small, but it only requires a moment to enter so the payoff for your trouble can be significant.

Companies may run contests as marketing campaigns, but that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit. This short list is just an overview, but with some luck and diligence you can find even more great things to win online.

A system repair disc is a vital tool for troubleshooting a Windows-based system that is having trouble booting up or maintaining stability. If you have the Windows 7 installation disc, then it doubles as a system repair disc. If you don’t, however, then you’ll be unable to access Microsoft’s built-in suite of boot troubleshooting utilities. But there’s still hope: You can create a system repair disc, and in this article we’ll show you how. We’ll also give you a few tips for how to use the system repair disc once you have it. If your computer is currently failing to boot and you already have the Windows Installation disc or a selfcreated system repair disc, then skip to the “Where The Rubber Meets The Repair” section of this article for tips on how to recover your system. If you need to create a system repair disc, then read on.

Restore vs. Repair

If your computer came prebuilt, then chances are it included a system restore disc, but keep in mind, this won’t work the same way. While the system repair disc is designed to help you repair your struggling PC’s Windows installation, a system restore disc will instead wipe the storage drive clean and reinstall Windows to give you a factory-fresh PC. If your PC fails to boot, you may feel that a destructive reinstall is your best hope, but don’t pull the trigger on a system restore until you’ve given the system repair disc a shot at resolving the problem. An easy way to remember is that it’s often easier (read:cheaper) to repair a car than it is to restore it.

Get Started

For those of you lucky enough to have the original installation discs for your Win7-based PC, you have everything you need to successfully repair your boot-shy computer. For everyone else, you most likely have to create a system repair disc yourself.

Sadly, if your computer is currently unbootable, then you’ll need to find a working Win7-based computer with an optical drive in order to proceed. Make sure the system you use to create the system repair disc is running the same 32-bit or 64-bit operating system type as your unbootable computer. If you’re making a system repair disc on a system that is working fine, then way to be proactive! Once at a working Win7-based computer, click Start, type backup in the Search box, and then click the topmost Programs result, which should be Backup And Restore. Click the Create A System Repair Disc hyperlink on the left side of the Backup And Restore window. At this point, if you’re prompted to input an administrator password or to confirm the action, do so. This launches the Create A System Repair Disc wizard, which will walk you through the process.

It’s possible that you’ll be asked to insert the Windows installation disc at some point. If this is the case, then your PC does not have the requisite files on it to create a system repair disc. If you do see this prompt, then you will need to borrow or otherwise acquire a Windows installation disc to complete this operation.

On the wizard, start by selecting the optical drive you want to use from the drop-down menu, insert writeable or rewriteable CD, DVD, or Blu-ray Disc media into the appropriate optical drive, and then click Create Disc. When finished, the wizard will display a pop-up dialog box about how to use the system repair disc and asking you to label the disc accordingly. Click Close to get rid of the message and then click OK to exit the Create A System Repair Disc wizard.

Prepared To Repair

With your Windows system repair disc in hand, you’ve got a powerful tool to ease most Windows boot troubleshooting tasks. If you find yourself unable to boot your PC, don’t reinstall; turn to the system repair disc first. In most cases, you’ll save time, headaches, and probably a bunch of important files you forgot to back up.

Where The Rubber Meets The Repair

With a system that fails to boot, start by turning the system on. Next, open the optical drive tray, insert the Windows installation disc or the system repair disc you created, and then close the tray. Restart the system. If properly configured, the system will prompt you to press a key to boot from the CD or DVD. If this does not occur, and the boot failure reoccurs, restart you system and begin pressing the DELETE, F1, or whatever key will launch the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) Setup menu. (Consult your documentation if the boot screen does not tell you which key to press.)

Once in the BIOS menu, you need to make your optical drive the first boot device, and the settings for this are typically found in a menu labeled Boot. When the BIOS is properly configured, save your settings and restart, and then press a key when prompted to boot from the CD or DVD.

From here, you can follow the step-by-step instructions to repair your system. If all else fails, then you might consider the more dramatic system restore. More than likely, however, the system repair disc will solve your issues quickly and easily.

How is your office decorated at the moment? If you are like most workers in America, it can be summed up in one adjective: Boring.

Quite possibly, you office is decorated in shades of gray and only houses things made of metal and plastic. This can be a big problem, especially if you work in a creative field and need to keep ideas flowing. Luckily, there are several ways to make your office space truly your own.

1. Update Your Phone

You don’t need to buy the most expensive phone, but simple things can be done to make your office less cluttered and more professional. For example, if you still use a land-line, then replace that with a second line on your cell phone, maybe with a program such as Line2.

2. Lose the Clutter

There are several ways to organize clutter in creative ways, such as furniture with cabinets built in. This gives you more space and takes advantage of all the space available to you.

3. Go Retro

Beanbags can be a fun way to make your office seem more open, care-free, and creative. Hopefully you do not mind having lots of people in your office, because these might attract visitors.

4. Switch the Desk

Few things spell “Boring” like a dull, cluttered desk. There are several alternatives to this boring office staple, depending on your taste. To establish a more sleek look, a slick “Milk Desk” (By Apple) can do the trick. Alternatively, an unusually shaped desk could give you a more “free spirit” feel. Of course, you could just lose the desk altogether and stick with a beanbag and a writing pad. Get some cool gadgets as well!

5. Re-Finish the Room

If it is an option, you might consider re-painting your office walls. If that is not an option, you could try putting up temporary walls that can be as unique as you want.

6. Shed Some Light on the Problem

Lamps can be perfect if you are used to moon lighting your work or pulling all-nighters. And, even if you tend to get your work done between 9 and 5, lamps can still provide attitude to a room when not lit.

7. Find Your Zen

Tiny sand gardens give a peaceful feel to a room and can help stimulate creativity. Also, taking care of tiny sand gardens is good for relieving stress so you can relax and regain your creativity.

8. Pimp the Throne

If you want to stimulate creativity, few things can help as much as having an appropriate chair. If you are uncomfortable sitting in your chair, you will find it hard to focus or sit still for long. And if you want to make your office interesting, there are several unique chair designs available from artsy stores and stores on the Internet.

There are few things in the business world that are less useful to a company than an unimaginative or unproductive employee. Be sure to get ahead by stimulating your imagination and productivity by updating the old, gray office.
