Nokia C3 Review

For those who are into a lot of texting, social networking and instant messaging, Nokia C3 is an ideal option to be considered. Quite a handy device equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard and easily affordable for those aiming for a low-budget phone, C3 fulfills all the basic needs plus a few more with style. By the looks and design of it, one cannot help comparing it with Blackberry phones on a first glance. It is available in slate grey (bluish), hot pink, golden, black, white, and light purple colors, and is equipped with all the relevant features in an affordable price-bracket.

Pros

Nokia C3 mainly focuses on users who require a cell phone basically for the purpose of texting and engaging in social activities through online social networks. It is distinguishable from other similar phones for its ease of texting and the accessibility of messengers and social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. The e-mail application is also quite easy to use, and user can add multiple e-mail accounts at a time including Gmail™, Yahoo!® Mail, Windows Live™ and Hotmail™ among various other popular ones. It also allows easy creation of an Ovi account where the users can download free stuff (themes, wallpapers, ringtones etc.) as well as make purchases from the Ovi Store.

Other key features of this economical package include: WLAN/Wi-Fi – which makes it an excellent device for users on-the-go, and quite a cheap one at that! – 55 MB built-in memory plus a 2 GB memory card included (supports up to 8 GB), FM Radio, a 2-megapixel camera, configurable soft-keys on either side, 2.4 inches display (320 x 240 pixels), customizable home-screen, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a music player that supports various formats including MP3, WMA, AMR-NB, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+. Wi-Fi network detection and connectivity is brilliant on C3, and user can access a large number of web pages and applications through the default browser, i.e. Opera Mini which is easy to use and proves to be quite handy for users who are always on the move. The device’s music player allows users to create playlists and classify songs on the basis of genre, album or artist. The sound quality is also good, with stereo-widening option and an equalizer which allows for a personalized audio experience.

Cons

As is the case with other phones in the market, Nokia C3 also comes with its fair share of drawbacks, the main one being the poor image quality of its 2 MP camera which is also evident in its video-recording, often resulting in blurry images and videos. This feature alone makes it unsuitable for users who want to enjoy movies/video-clips or those who wish to take pictures on-the-go. The S40 Operating System is also quite outdated now, but it is not a major issue considering the price of this phone. Even though C3 is quite handy for accessing e-mails, it does not support Microsoft Office, and users cannot attach or download an Office or PDF file (only limited-sized jpeg. images can be downloaded), which limits its usage to the younger generation. Another drawback is that related to the model that comes in light purple color. I, from my personal experience, would not recommend that color for those who plan to use it extensively (and for those with sweaty palms!) as it comes with a design on its rear which quickly wears off through regular use, making the device lose its appeal. Other than that, Nokia C3 does not have separate keys dedicated to volume control and camera, thus users have to control everything through regular keys, which proves to be quite a hassle sometimes. This phone also lacks multi-tasking, which sometimes makes browsing and switching to different programs a slow and tedious task. Considering the price range, C3 also does not have 3G and GPS features.

Conclusion

All in all, Nokia C3 offers a complete package for a buyer on a budget, and is basically targeted to youth instead of professionals due to its email-attachment and document-viewing problem. Other than that, it proves to be an excellent texting and instant-messaging device with its full QWERTY keyboard and a wide range of options for social networking enclosed in an elegant and a sleek design.
